Scarsdale and Darien named among the richest U.S. towns

Where do the really, really rich folks live? According to a 24/7 Wall St. analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey data, the very deep pocketed people can be found in a pair of regional towns.

Scarsdale was ranked as the richest town in the U.S., boasting a median household income of $242,782, a median home value of $1.23 million, and a 2.3 percent poverty rate. Eighty-seven percent of Scarsdale adults have a bachelor”™s degree or higher.

Across the border in Fairfield County, Darien ranked sixth on the list of the nation”™s richest towns. Darien was cited for its $208,906 median household income, a $1.27 million median home value and a 5.4 percent poverty rate. Darien adults with at least a bachelor”™s degree accounted for 80.1 percent of the population.

And at the other end of the spectrum: Centreville, Illinois, was dubbed the nation”™s poorest town with a median household income of $16,553, a median home value of $49,600, a 47.8 percent poverty rate and only 10.9 percent of adults with a college degree.
