Weston business guides homeowners through solar decisions
Robin Saidov spent 20 years in the energy industry. She was part of numerous projects including renewable developments at utility scale. But when she investigated installing solar panels on her own home in Weston, Connecticut she found her knowledge did not prepare her as much as she expected.
“Sunrun, SunPower, Tesla, and some of the smaller players too,” Saidov recalled, “I was just seeing that no company out there is giving comprehensive and accurate information for homeowners.”
According to Saidov even the largest companies were not always the most trustworthy. “It seems to be their business practice is to misrepresent information so homeowners that didn’t understand what they’re getting into have been basically ripped off.”
After getting a series of estimates and learning about the financing options offered by solar companies Saidov developed courses that can guide those considering investing in solar panels through the process of determining the right company to partner with. She launched Your Energy Footprint to share her findings in an accessible way.
Saidov said that homeowners need to approach decisions about solar as customers of a financial product at least as much as buyers of a piece of technology.
She offers a $47 course aimed at those considering getting quotes about solar installation, and a $247 course for those who want to narrow down which company to work with.
Additionally, she has launched a podcast discussing how homeowners can make the most out of energy efficiency upgrades.
