Maplewood at Southport – billed as the only luxury senior living residence in Southport offering a custom independent lifestyle, along with tailored assisted living and memory care services – celebrated its fifth anniversary Thursday, July 25,  with a cocktail party for residents, families, professional partners, Maplewood leadership, town officials and community members. Those included Southport First Selectman William A. Gerber and Beverly A. Balaz, president of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

In a sense, the event was a reminder that  Maplewood – which has a 93,000-square-foot building with 98 apartments at or near capacity and 10 acres of gardens and walking paths – is designed to make every day a celebration.

“Our vision was to create a community that truly reflects the spirit and beauty of Southport,” said Executive Director Laurie Lofgren. “From our architecture and interior design to our curated programs and dining experiences, every aspect of Maplewood at Southport is designed to feel like an extension of the homes our residents have loved for years. We’re deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by our residents and their families, and we’re honored to have become an integral part of this wonderful community over the past five years.”

Amenities include an open-display dining room featuring farm to-table fare, a salon and spa, a library, a pub and a bistro. Since its inception, Maplewood has offered a host of programming and events that celebrate local culture and traditions and are beloved by residents and their families alike.

“Our Summer Concert Series, filled with dancing and live music, has quickly become a highly-anticipated tradition among our residents and their guests,” said Deven Clemens, senior lifestyle director. “We’ve also seen remarkable interest in community volunteerism from our residents. (Recently), a group came together to prepare sandwiches for Operation Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to combating food and housing insecurity.”

“Choosing Maplewood was the best decision for our family,” said resident Tony Mitchell. “The atmosphere immediately drew us in. It feels like home, secluded in nature, with spacious, elegantly decorated rooms and common areas.

“What truly sets Maplewood apart is the exceptional level of care they provide. My wife Jackie has dementia, and it was difficult for me to care for her on my own. The Maplewood team stepped in with incredible grace and support. They’ve created a community where we can thrive, offering tasteful events that make every moment memorable. I’ve even joined the choir, which has become a weekly highlight for me. My advice to anyone considering senior living?

“Trust your instincts and always visit in person. For us, Maplewood was the clear winner, and we couldn’t be happier with our choice.”
