Jeremy Wayne’s Best Business Choices – Attune Med Spa, Stamford 

Let’s start with an admission: I’m skeptical about spas. Now, before you all jump down my throat, let me be clear. Offer me an afternoon of pummeling, pumicing, peeling and pampering, sweating in saunas and steam baths and dipping in limpid pools like some latter-day patrician Roman, and I’m in. Oh boy, am I.  

What I’m skeptical about is some of the claims I see made for spas — weight loss, radiant skin, everlasting beauty – and all from just a couple of visits. Pah. A hotelier friend of mine goes so far as to say only real “spas” – the spa town of Spa in Belgium, for instance; or Vichy in France; or our very own Saratoga Springs here in New York – have the right to call themselves spas. A listless neck-rub by a barely-trained school-leaver, at the end of which I am offered an earthenware mug of green tea tasting ever so slightly of dung and asked to think of my favorite color, does not a spa make. 

But hang on – here comes Attune Med Spa, recently opened in Stamford. Attune is a woman-led and -operated team with more than 20 years of experience in the luxury spa industry. Leveraging cutting-edge technology and a holistic approach to wellness in a state-of-the-art facility, this new age spa offers a range of aesthetic procedures and services designed to help clients look and feel their best. And although there is no question of “taking the waters” here, (something you would traditionally do at a “real” spa), the medical aspect is impressive, with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, technologists and beauty experts, all on hand to offer a comprehensive approach to wellness.  

Founder and CEO, Stephanie Joyce, has poured a decade of experience into creating Attune, and has plans “to go big” with the business, opening in multiple locations.

Along with customized peels, medical-grade hydrafacials, microneedling, laser treatment and neurotoxins, Attune also offers intravenous therapies, revitalizing injections, noninvasive supplements and other targeted programs to address a wide range of concerns. 

One treatment that will have special appeal for men I suspect is PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) hair restoration, which involves injecting a derivative of platelet-rich plasma into the scalp and which is garnering increasingly solid reviews.  

Specialized treatments like lymphatic drainage and holistic healing are also offered. 

The membership plans struck me as impressively reasonable for these kinds of treatments. I also like that Joyce envisions Attune as “a place where beauty is seen as an expression of well-being.” In other words, health first and the rest may naturally follow – something the good-looking Romans almost certainly understood.
