Rye internship program seeks local businesses
The town of Rye is seeking local businesses and nonprofit organizations to take part in its annual summer internship program for high school students.
Rye’s six-week internship program, which began in 2012, gives 10 students the opportunity to work with local employers across a number of different fields. Businesses get the chance to work with potential future employees.
During the first week of the internship, students will participate in a job-readiness workshop conducted by the town. The workshop will include sessions on job search skills, resume writing, interviewing and on-the-job performance.  During the following five weeks, the students will work directly with the employer they are assigned to. The program begins July 6 and ends Aug. 14.
Participants in previous years include the Clay Art Center, Family Services of Westchester, Port Chester Children’s Place, the village of Port Chester and the town of Rye. Felix Maisonet, an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance in Port Chester, said the company saw success participating in the program for the first time last year.
“We found the interns to be eager to learn more about the insurance business and industry,” Maisonet said. “Conversely, we have been given the opportunity to share our experiences with the interns and show them that this can be a career they can enjoy in the future.”
Businesses interested in working with an intern this summer can contact David Thomas at the town of Rye at 914-939-3075, ext. 100, or parksdept@townofryeny.com.
