Riverkeeper gets its own beer, wants help naming it

Two local breweries are planning to brew a harvest ale that will benefit Riverkeeper, the nonprofit environmental watchdog that focuses on efforts to protect the Hudson River and its estuaries.

The nonprofit is asking for help in naming the beer, which will be a collaboration of Westchester County beer makers Peekskill Brewery and Captain Lawrence Brewing Co.

A suggestion form is available online for those who have ideas about what to name the beer, and Riverkeeper said the winner will be selected using social media with the hashtag #hudsonbeer. The winner will be announced at a Peekskill Brewery tasting Sept. 24, with a similar event held at Captain Lawrence”™s brewery in Elmsford on Sept. 26.

Proceeds from the sale of the ale will benefit Riverkeeper, the nonprofit said. The brew will be available to the public Oct. 4 at the Hudson Hop and Harvest festival at Peekskill Riverfront Green Park.
