Marist named to best college list
For the past several years, Marist College has made the list of the nation”™s best institutions for undergraduate education, and it did so again in the 2010 edition of The Princeton Review”™s annual “best colleges” guide.
About 15 percent of America”™s four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges are profiled in the book.
The profile calls Marist “a smaller private school in a nice area with a great campus life, offering a surprising range of options to its largely career-minded student population.” In particular, the guide highlights Marist”™s School of Management, criminal justice department, and teacher education, communications and fashion programs.
“All departments benefit from the school”™s unique partnership with IBM, which translates into very advanced computer technology and web services. Its online library is very extensive and extremely helpful for research papers and projects,” according to the review.
Student reviewers appreciate the school”™s “vigorous” efforts to place them in meaningful internships.

Students also love the intensive study-abroad program, through which they can go almost anywhere in the world for the same prices as a semester at Marist.

“We commend Marist College for its outstanding academics, which is the primary criterion for our choice of schools for the book,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s vice president for publishing. “We also work to keep a wide representation of colleges in the book by region, size, selectivity and character. We make our choices based on institutional data we gather about schools, feedback from students attending them and input from our staff who visit hundreds of colleges a year. We value the opinions and suggestions of our 23-member National College Counselor Advisory Board and independent college counselors we hear from throughout the year.”
Â
Student surveys cite Marist’s “breathtaking views of the Hudson River and great campus complete with nature trails and riverfront park. Many here are extremely concerned with life after college and engage in activities and internships that will give us more experience in our future careers.” Students gave high praise to college activities for providing a wide variety of entertainment venues and performances on the Marist campus, and to many cultural and recreational opportunities that exist in the surrounding region and New York City.
“What makes our continued inclusion in this prestigious publication even more satisfying is that ratings by our students played a major role in Marist being listed,” college President Dennis J. Murray said. “That means students come to Marist for its quality faculty and staff, programs, internships, and study abroad opportunities, receive the best education, have fun, graduate, and get good jobs.”
The Princeton Review also named the Marist College School of Management one of the “best 290 business schools” in the country.”
