White Plains Hospital, Montefiore form partnership

White Plains Hospital and Montefiore Health System today announced plans to form a new health care partnership. White Plains Hospital’s board of directors at a board meeting Wednesday approved the signing of an agreement with Montefiore.

The partnership will expand the reach of Montefiore’s health care service area to nearly 3 million people, according to a joint announcement. White Plains Hospital is located 10 miles north of Montefiore’s main campus in the Bronx.

“Our hospital provides an exceptional level of care through a close working relationship between our physicians, nurses and staff,” said Jon Schandler, White Plains Hospital CEO, in a written statement. “With Montefiore as our partner, we will be able to build upon and continue this remarkable culture and together deliver advanced health care to the entire community.”

Montefiore has been growing its network of practices in Westchester and is expanding quickly. In the fall, Montefiore opened Montefiore New Rochelle, Montefiore Mount Vernon and Schaffer Extended Care Center at the former Sound Shore Health Systems hospitals and nursing home in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon.

The partnership with a hospital and academic health center bridges the “best of science and unique expertise in coordinated care,” said Dr. Steven M. Safyer, president and CEO of Montefiore, in a written statement. He added that Montefiore”™s plans to build an “integrated system of care” among a regional network of hospitals and community physicians.

The partnership may take several months to finalize with state applications pending approval.
