Propel moves to Ossining

An innovative orthodontics company has moved from Tarrytown to Ossining.

Propel Orthodontics L.L.C. recently completed a move to 233 S. Highland Ave. in Ossining. The company plans to add 25 jobs within the next year.

Propel designs products that speed up orthodontic procedures, making it easier for orthodontists and decreasing the time people would have to wear braces from two years to one year.

The technique was developed at New York University”™s College of Dentistry and licensed by Dr. Richard Johnson, who founded the company in 2010 and serves as its chairman.

The technique, called Alveocentesis, stimulates the alveolar bone where orthodontic force is applied to the teeth. The bone is modeled more efficiently, helping to treat the teeth a lot faster.

Michael Burrows, the director of marketing, said the company simply outgrew its Tarrytown office.

“We”™ve had very good results so far,” Burrows said. “Sales are great.”

Burrows said the company hopes to double revenue while in Ossining and become a greater presence in the metro area. Being in Ossining provides a better proximity to vendors and other businesses, Burrows said.

Ossining Town Councilman Peter Tripodi was instrumental in getting Propel to move, saying that the town lacks these types of businesses. “We need businesses that are professional, non-manual labor,” Tripodi said. “These businesses provide jobs for lower-level skilled people, but also highly skilled young professionals. This is a company that employs younger people like me.”
