New York Medical College to receive weekly farm deliveries

New York Medical College said this week it is now offering locally grown farm products in a weekly share program through the Good Farmers Network, a Hudson Valley organization aiming to expand opportunities for beginning farmers.

Food offerings, which vary by season, include organic vegetables and fruit, grass-fed meats, poultry, eggs and other specialty items from Hudson Valley farms.

Weekly deliveries will take place each Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the college’s Medical Education Center, 40 Sunshine Cottage Rd. in Valhalla.

New York Medical College Chancellor and CEO Edward C. Halperin said nutrition is an integral part of the health sciences curriculum at the school.

“We want to back our classroom words with action,” Halperin said. “We are delighted to both facilitate farm-to-table good nutrition for the campus community as well as support our local farmers and the local economy.”

Participants can choose from small, medium and large weekly vegetable shares. Small shares, which include four-to-five items, cost $20; medium shares, which includes six-to-seven items, cost $29; and large shares, which include eight-to-nine items, cost $37.50.

Participation is week-to-week, and no contract is required.

All shares contain recipes from Hudson-based The Lineage Farm and Chatham-based Little Seed Gardens.

Good Farmers Network, based in Philmont, has delivery locations at New York Medical College; Crabtree’s Kittle House in Chappaqua; Huguenot Memorial Church in Pelham; and Hitchcock Church in Scarsdale.
