Mount Vernon plant closing could idle nearly 200
Landauer Metropolitan Inc., a medical equipment and supply company in Mount Vernon, will lay off up to 198 workers at its 1 Bradford Road headquarters  when it permanently shuts down in early October, according to a recent filing with the state Department of Labor.
Statewide, the company expects to lay off 296 workers at five other plants, including three employees in Poughkeepsie, Landauer notified state officials.
Landauer indicated the plant closings are linked to the company’s potential acquisition by Quadrant Management Inc., a middle-market private equity investment firm based in Manhattan. The investment firm has more than $3 billion in assets under management.
Officials at Landauer Metropolitan and Quadrant did not respond to requests for comment.
Donna Greene, spokeswoman for Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, said the county “is in the process of assessing the situation and stands ready to help the employees and  the companies.”
