White Plains parking app available for city garages, lots

Parking may get a little easier in White Plains with the launch of a mobile app designed to make it easier to find spots and pay for them.

The app, called ParkWhitePlains, was launched by the city Monday and is available for free on Apple”™s App Store and the Google Play Store for Android.

The software allows the user to pay for parking without going to a meter or using Pay-by-Phone, add time to their spot and keep track of time left with a countdown timer. Other features include locating public garages and lots near the user”™s destination and allowing merchants to pay for parking sessions.

The app works with 14 garages and lots in the city, and the service is expected to expand to street meters by the end of the year.

The system chosen to design and launch ParkWhitePlains was Passport, a Charlotte, N.C.-based mobile payment company. Passport created similar parking apps for Boston, Toronto and Chicago.
