Veterans Virtual Job Fair ends Dec. 31
A Veterans Virtual Job Fair sponsored by the Westchester and Putnam county executives that matches job-seeking veterans with hiring businesses will run online through Dec. 31.
Businesses can earn up to $8,000 in federal tax credits for each veteran they hire. They also can get up to $20,000 to train qualifying employees hired through the county”™s Hire Westchester program.
The free online program is sponsored for the third consecutive year by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell.
“Our veterans have the skills, training, professionalism and confidence to help any business grow,” Astorino said. “The tax credits and training subsidies currently available make it a great time to hire a veteran.”
Employers can register their available positions at the online job fair and search profiles, while veterans can post their resumes and search for jobs.
In Elmsford, SolarCity Corp., a national solar power systems design and installation company, is hiring installers, electricians, engineers and others through the veterans program. Leon Keshishian, SolarCity regional vice president for east coast operations, in a press release called the Veterans Virtual Job Fair “a great tool for us to connect with qualified workers, especially for our growing Westchester County operations.”
County officials said jobs available through the online portal include positions in sales, retail, information technology, accounting, financial services, graphic arts and custodial services.
At ShopRite Supermarkets Inc., Tom Urtz, vice president of operations, said the company”™s partnership with the Veterans Virtual Job Fair “has allowed us to reach new heights. ”¦ Each veteran brings a unique set of skills to the organization, and their dedication and life experience sets a great example for our associates to follow.”
