Stewart-Cousins named leader of the Democrats
Yonkers State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was selected by the Senate Democratic Conference to be its Conference Leader yesterday.
Stewart-Cousins, who represents the 35th district, is the first female Conference Leader in the history of the state. She was re-elected in November, running unopposed.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be selected by my colleagues for this position. I look forward to advocating for the progressive agenda that the people of New York have demanded,” said Stewart-Cousins in a statement.
Stewart-Cousins will replace State Senator John Sampson, who praised her selection.
“I look forward to working with Leader Stewart-Cousins as we move the Democratic Conference forward serving all New Yorkers,” Sampson said in a statement.
