Sandy damage tops $14M for Yonkers and other sewage plants
The cost of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy continues to be tallied up. Officials at the Department of Environmental Facilities determined the cost for repair would be $14.5 million for the Yonkers wastewater treatment plant and other ancillary sewage facilities elsewhere.
The Yonkers plant serves communities in Westchester from Mount Kisco to Eastchester down to Yonkers. The plant apparently was damaged after the impact of the hurricane caused the Hudson River to encroach the facilities lawn, parking lot and up to the front door of the office.
The cleanup effort continues in the meantime, with workers cleaning the interior of the plant and performing checks on the building”™s wiring.
