Mayor Joe Ganim announces Bridgeport hiring and spending freeze
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim announced that the city”™s Office of Policy & Management and Finance Administration have been directed to freeze all discretionary spending and hiring until the Connecticut state budget is finalized.
In making a statement released by his office, Ganim said he was “anticipating that the Governor”™s Interim Budget Proposal will fall short up to $27 million in municipal funds for the city of Bridgeport.” He added that he was reviewing current spending and was considering possible budget cuts in order support expenditure savings.
“Regardless of what measures the city takes, it would be impossible to make up for this level of impact,” Ganim said. “It is my hope that the state is able to pass a budget that will continue to support the needs of Connecticut”™s cities and towns.”
