Lawmakers try again to rename Donald J. Trump State Park

A pair of New York state legislators have introduced an effort to rename Donald J. Trump State Park.

The 436-acre park spans Westchester and Putnam Counties, covering Yorktown and Putnam Valley. Trump donated the property to the state in 2006, 10 years before he was elected as the 45th president.

Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg and State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal claimed that Trump”™s name has resulted in minimal visitation to the park, adding that his “divisive and un-democratic actions” reflect poorly on the state.

“New York State has always been known for welcoming and embracing people of all cultures and backgrounds, and even our park system reflects these values,” said the lawmakers in their bill”™s memo. “The names of these parks and green spaces should do the same.”

The legislators previously tried to rename the park in 2021, but their effort stalled in the state assembly.
