FEMA opens Rockland center

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a disaster recovery center for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Rockland County at 1 Provident Bank Park Drive in Pomona.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

FEMA through Nov. 18 approved more than $500 million in assistance to individuals and families in 13 counties recovering from flood, wind and tree damage and prolonged power outages.

More than 212,000 New Yorkers have contacted FEMA for information or have registered for assistance, FEMA officials said. More than half of applicants have applied either online at disasterassistance.gov or on their smart phones at m.fema.gov.
