Democrat Bill Gerber declared winner in Fairfield first selectman race

Democrat Bill Gerber was named the winner of the recount in the race for Fairfield First Selectman, edging ahead of Republican incumbent Brenda Kupchick by a 37-vote majority.

Gerber received 8,963 votes to Kupchick’s 8,926 in last night’s recount. The Election Day tally had Gerber winning by 42 votes.

Gerber, who served on Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting since 2013, is a former financial services executive. He was most recently chief financial officer at White Mountains Financial Services, a division of White Mountains Insurance Group, and during his career he held leadership positions at CitiInsurance, Aetna and Arthur Andersen Business Consulting.

Kupchick served as the first selectman since 2019 and was previously in the Connecticut House of Representatives from the 132nd district from 2011 to 2019.
