Connecticut’s insurance companies and utilities among corporations funneling $515K to Lamont’s inaugural ball

Gov. Ned Lamont”™s second inaugural ball earlier this month vacuumed up $515,000 in sponsorships from state-based companies and from national corporations doing business in Connecticut.

CTNewsJunkie.com reported that sponsorships for the event on Jan. 4 was capped at $25,000. Among the entities who contributed the maximum amounts were health care companies including Cigna (NYSE:CI), CVS/Aetna (NYSE:CVS) and UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH), along with the state”™s utilities Eversource (NYSE:ES) and United Illuminating”™s parent company Avangrid (NYSE:AGR). Perhaps not surprisingly, none of these companies were specifically identified by Lamont in his inaugural speech when he gently chided unnamed insurance companies and utilities for passing along higher costs to consumers.

Also providing the $25,000 maximum in sponsorships were Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT), the parent company of Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft, Webster Bank (NYSE:WBS), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), LAS Parking and Deloitte. The state”™s Native American tribes that operate casinos, the Mohegan Tribal Nation and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, donated $15,000 and $10,000.
