Billy’s Bakery, longtime Fairfield staple, shuts down

Billy’s Bakery, an independently owned favorite of Fairfield’s food scene since 2001 that specialized in freshly baked breads and pastries, announced it has gone out of business.

In a posting to Facebook on Nov. 13, the bakery’s owners offered a bittersweet request for its customers.

“On this last day, we urge all customers to remember that behind every counter are people who invest their hearts and time to be away from their families, whether it’s sweeping floors to paperwork, individuals who often sacrifice family time and vacations, ultimately caring for customer satisfaction and serving the community to return to their favorite local business,” the posting said. “Please remember to support small businesses not only during the holidays, but year round. Forgive the errors and mistakes that inevitably happen. It’s not because we don’t care, but sometimes mistakes unfortunately occur in this line of business. Life is a learning process, even in businesses. We wish you a holiday season filled with love. God bless you all.”

Mariola Boruch-Karwacki, who acquired Billy’s Bakery in 2018, also owns Mariola’s Cafe in Monroe, which is not impacted by the Fairfield store’s closing.
