D’Agostino closes only Westchester location
Grocery chain D’Agostino closed its Rye Brook location ”“ its only store in Westchester County ”“ this weekend and provided little forewarning to employees or customers.
According to several media reports, a sign at the store’s front entrance at Rye Ridge Shopping Center alerts customers it is closed for remodeling. A call to D’Agostino’s corporate headquarters in Larchmont on Tuesday went unanswered.
According to an April report by the New York Post, the grocery company has suffered financial struggles in recent years due to the influx of combination pharmacy-grocery stores popping up across the region.
D’Agostino, now with 13 locations in Manhattan, opened its first location at Lexington Avenue and 83rd Street in in 1932. The family-owned business brands itself as “New York’s Original Grocer.”
Rye Ridge Shopping Center, at Ridge Street and Bowman Avenue in Rye Brook, holds nearly 50 stores and restaurants, including CVS, Starbucks and Chipotle Mexican Grill. The property is operated by Rye Brook-based Win Properties Inc.
