Yale-New Haven opens cancer hospital
After three years of construction, Yale-New Haven Hospital opened Smilow Cancer Hospital, a 170-bed facility in New Haven that the National Cancer Institute has designated one of 40 premier cancer centers in the United States.
The 500,000-square-foot facility includes a dozen operating rooms, outpatient centers for 12 specialized cancer programs, a women”™s cancer center and separate radiology floors for children and adults.
“We believe that the way in which this building was planned and constructed will help to relieve some of the burdens these patients have to carry,” said Marna Borgstrom. CEO of Yale-New Haven Hospital, in a statement. “Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven will be a place where people who have cancer will benefit from the latest research breakthroughs and will be cared for and cared about.”
Bridgeport Hospital and Greenwich Hospital are both affiliates of Yale New Haven Health System.
