Smokeless tobacco maker UST Inc. has substantially completed the relocation of its headquarters operation from Stamford to the Richmond, Va.-area offices of its new corporate parent Altria Group Inc., which acquired UST for $10.4 billion in January.
Just 80 of 350 UST employees are moving to the Richmond area, according to Daniel Butler, a senior UST executive, as quoted by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. UST reportedly is cutting an additional 60 sales jobs in the Mid-Atlantic region, but none of the relocating Stamford workers is affected.
The move ends UST”™s nearly 30-year headquarters connection to Connecticut, after relocating to Greenwich in 1970 from New York City, and then taking new offices in Stamford in 2006.
