The Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County is merging into the United Way of Western Connecticut, with both organizations already housed in the same buildings in Danbury and Stamford.
By bringing volunteer services under the United Way, the organizations stated, volunteers across the region will have a more seamless experience, whether they are seeking a one-time project or a more meaningful, long-term opportunity.
The Volunteer Center was created in 1973 by the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk and the United Way of Stamford. The organization serves some 300 nonprofits today.
“We recognized that ”¦ we need to engage a greater number of volunteers who bring passion, expertise and resources to our work,” said Brooke Feder, United Way of Western Connecticut”™s chair who works for Cushman & Wakefield, in a written statement. “The Volunteer Center is a partner that can help us achieve this goal.”
