The WorkPlace secures $300K federal grant
The WorkPlace Inc., a nonprofit workforce development firm, has secured a $300,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes announced.
Grants made through the program are awarded to fund job training and job placement for veterans, as well as other needs, such as clothing, temporary or permanent housing referrals and services like peer coaching and counseling.
This is the ninth consecutive year that The WorkPlace, which is based in Bridgeport and serves as the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Workforce Investment Board for the southwest portion of the state, has received a grant through the Homeless Veterans Reintegration program.
“As our veterans return from serving our country abroad, they are often faced with the difficult task of finding new jobs in the civilian workforce,” Himes said in a June 27 release. “This grant will provide the job training and support to help them complete their transition. Though we can never truly pay them back for their sacrifice, we can do more to help them re-establish their lives here at home.”
Joe Carbone, president and CEO of The WorkPlace, said, “The grant enables us to offer a comprehensive suite of services to Veterans. We look forward to continued collaboration with our partners to provide training and support services that will help our Veterans to enter the labor force.”
