Sunday Alcohol price regulations under examination

Now that customers are allowed to purchase alcohol on Sundays in Connecticut, a task force will be meeting Wednesday to review price regulations, taxes and volume discounts, according to the Associated Press.

The law went into effect May 20, with the expectation that the growth in sales would equate to between $6.4 million and $11.2 million in new state revenue.

“It’s really an issue of competition,” Andrew Doba, the governor’s spokesman, told the AP in January. “For many of the border towns, it’s just easier or cheaper now for someone to head over to Massachusetts, New York or Rhode Island to buy alcohol.”

The Competitive Alcohol Liquor Pricing Task Force, comprised of 15 people, will discuss details not addressed in the final bill and make recommendations for the General Assembly for next year.
