Students get lesson in high-tech manufacturing

Employees of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., Unilever and other local companies were at Norwalk Community College April 1 to teach hundreds of area high-school students about careers in high-tech manufacturing.

Sponsored by the Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing and administered by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, the “engineering your future” event also included representatives from Alloy Engineering and Schwerdtle Stamping Co. in Bridgeport, Hoffman Engineering in Stamford, Sunport Industries in Norwalk and the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology in East Hartford.

Students saw demonstrations of high-tech manufacturing processes, including 3D drafting, printing, digitizing and laser scanning.

“This event helps educate our future workforce about the new opportunities available in manufacturing and helps them understand the skills and education needed to have successful careers in the industry,” said Judith Resnick, executive director of CBIA”™s education foundation.
