Stamford Dollars for Scholars golf tourney brings in $40K
Stamford Dollars for Scholars’ third annual golf and dinner fundraising event Sept. 22 brought in nearly $40,000.
Founded in 2011, the nonprofit to date has awarded a total 53 scholarships valued at more than $200,000.
The golf and dinner event coupled with a scholarship raffle over the summer jump-started fundraising for 2015 scholarships, the nonprofit said in a statement.
Event sponsors giving 2015 scholarships included Stamford-based The Whittingham Family Foundation, which provided an $8,000 four-year scholarship.
Additionally, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, which operates statewide; Connecticut Business Systems, a subsidiary of Norwalk-based Xerox; Stamford-based Eastern Land Management; and New York City-based Omnicom Group, which runs a Greenwich office, are each sponsoring $1,000 first-year scholarships.
In a statement, the nonprofit said the golf figure was the highest in the three years the tournament has been held. It was held at the E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course in Stamford and at Zody”™s 19th Hole Restaurant on Stillwater Road.
