Shipman expands finance and real estate practice, adds partner

STAMFORD – New Haven-based law firm Shipman & Goodwin LLP has expanded its finance and real estate practice groups with the addition of Jonathan E. Orell as a partner in the firm’s Stamford office.

“Jon (Orell) adds further bench strength to the busy practice, leveraging his experience in sophisticated and complex finance and real estate transactions and further enhancing Shipman’s capabilities to meet client demands with highly responsive and quality legal services, according to a statement from the firm.

“We’re thrilled to have added Jon’s talent and experience to our Finance and Real Estate teams,” said Scott Gerard, co-chair of Shipman’s finance practice. “He has represented both lenders and borrowers in complex commercial lending transactions of all types and his knowledge of real estate finance including New York lien laws and commercial development from the ground up is a perfect fit for our clients.”

Orell will focus his practice on sophisticated and complex financial and real estate transactions, including leasing, acquisition, sale, and financing of commercial properties of all asset classes as well as non-real estate assets. He serves a diverse range of real estate clients, including owner-operators, real estate developers, and investors in connection with land acquisition, ground-up developments, and financing of all types including commercial properties restaurants, shopping centers, office buildings, and multi-family properties.

He also counsels lenders in complex lending transactions including syndicated and participated loans, mezzanine financing, acquisition financing, credit enhancement, affordable housing, as well as all other types of commercial financing.

Orell is admitted to the bar in both New York and Connecticut. He earned his J.D. from Brooklyn University in 2011 and his B.A. from the University of Vermont in 2006.
