Report: GE awards UConn $7.5m

General Electric Co. reportedly is awarding the University of Connecticut $7.5 million to support research on electrical systems.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and UConn President Susan Herbst are scheduled to make the announcement next week at a Plainville facility operated by Fairfield-based GE, according to the New Haven Register, citing a media advisory the newspaper received from a public relations firm working for GE.

As of Wednesday morning, Malloy’s office and GE had made no formal announcement.
