NRA lobbies in Hartford

Gun-control opponents lobbied in Hartford March 11 at an event arranged by the National Rifle Association (NRA), Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen and  Connecticut Citizens Defense League.

Legislators are currently discussing legislation to require annual gun registration and bans on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines. However, gun-rights supporters say the bills, if passed, would only limit law-abiding citizens and fail to prevent mass shootings like the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Reports estimate the crowd at the event to have been as large as 3,000 people, most of whom oppose the proposed regulations on guns.
