NORWALK – Rochester, New York-based Wegmans supermarket has already begun its search for 500 workers as it preps for its long-awaited opening at 675 Connecticut Ave. on July 23.

After the original site was changed from 47 Richards Ave. following some public opposition, the company set its sights on a 92,000-square-foot location on Connecticut Avenue. The Norwalk Wegmans will employ approximately 500 people, the vast majority hired locally.

The new store will feature traditional Wegmans departments such as restaurant foods (sushi, pizza, chef-made salads, and sandwiches), produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese. In addition, the store will offer one-stop shopping with approximately 500 varieties of domestic, craft, and imported beers and hard ciders.

Norwalk Store Manager Emily Gee and Service Manager Cody Nunn will give tours of the new store to the media starting next month.

Those people who are hired will undergo paid training until May at the supermarket’s Harrison, New York location, which is located at 106 Corporate Park Drive.  Trainees will be reimbursed for mileage incurred while traveling for training purposes.
