Nonprofit STAR Inc. Receives grant for ADA compliance

Connecticut has provided a grant of $569,323 to Norwalk-based STAR Inc. to make important improvements to their headquarters.

STAR serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as their families throughout lower Fairfield County. They serve residents of New Canaan, Wilton, Weston, Westport and Darien as well as Norwalk.

The grant is part of the state’s Nonprofit Grant Program has distributed more than $130 million to 750 projects since it was established in 2013.

STAR plans to use the grant to install two new covered entrance ramps at their Norwalk offices. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps are one of the major capital projects the Nonprofit Grant Program is meant to fund.

“STAR is a fantastic organization here in Norwalk, providing essential services to individuals with disabilities from birth through their senior years,” said Senator Duff in a press release announcing the grant. “I am grateful to Governor Lamont for continuing to make these critical investments to our local nonprofits that serve our most vulnerable residents. These facility upgrades will ensure STAR families are able to access the office safely and securely.”
