Niantic selected as favorite Conn. town
Residents selected Niantic as their favorite town in Connecticut in a statewide poll conducted by the Office of Tourism.
Technically a village of East Lyme, Niantic sits along the Long Island Sound and is a popular place to swim, boat and fish. The Inn at the Harbor Hill marina was voted the favorite destination within the village.
“Niantic is a perfect example of what it means to be ‘still revolutionary,'” said Randy Fiveash, director of Connecticut’s Office of Tourism, in reference to the state’s tourism marketing campaign slogan. “From The Inn at Harbor Hill Marina, to Grace, it is a place that inspires residents and visitors alike.”
The tourism office hosted the first-ever contest as a part of the state’s marketing campaign to increase the tourism industry. About 10,000 people voted in the contest and the winning town will receive both a promotional video and featured articles in the 2014 Connecticut Visitor’s Guide.
No town in Fairfield County received enough votes to make the top 10.
