Metro-North plans service expansion
Beginning April 7, Metro-North Railroad will introduce its largest expansion of service in 30 years, adding 187 weekend and off-peak trains.
In October, the MTA added 56 trains to the Metro-North Hudson, Harlem and New  Haven lines. The MTA has increased service by 5.6 percent since last fall. In March, the MTA raised fares to help close a $450 million budget gap.
The Hudson line will see 85 additional weekday and 22 additional weekend trains, while the Harlem Line will see 65 additional weekday and six additional weekend trains.
The New Haven line will see additional half-hour service between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal, with the addition of nine weekend trains.
“We are able to increase frequency and provide faster trip times system wide,” said Metro-North President Howard Permut in a statement. “We expect that this extraordinary service expansion will make the railroad more attractive than ever and that it will become the travel mode of choice to millions more in New York and Connecticut.”
