McMahon to make good on debt

For a candidate accustomed to freely wielding her purse on the U.S. Senate campaign trail, Linda McMahon will be writing some checks she perhaps never expected.

McMahon and husband Vince McMahon will pay in full all creditors listed in a 1976 bankruptcy filing by the couple, according to the New London Day which this week published an itemized list of creditors listed in the bankruptcy.

The McMahons listed $1 million in debt at the time, with the bankruptcy occurring before they built Stamford-based World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. into a money machine.

McMahon has spent the past few weeks trading barbs on personal finances with her campaign opponent U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, who had foreclosure proceedings initiated in 2007 on a house he owned before reaching a settlement with lenders.
