Governor calls for expansion of state education reforms

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Feb. 1 a $14.1 million proposal to expand the state’s education reform efforts.

The additional funds would bring the total funding for the Commissioner’s Network schools to $27.5 million, allowing at least twice as many districts to participate in turning around the state’s lowest performing schools.

Six schools, including ones in Norwalk and Bridgeport, have been invited to the Commissioner’s Network, bringing the total number of school participating to 10.

“For too long, we failed to bring about meaningful reform in our state”™s lowest performing schools,” Malloy said in a press release, in advance of his Feb. 6 budget proposal. “The Commissioner”™s Network is changing that by directing more resources to our students and making other meaningful changes to ensure that students have every available opportunity to succeed.”
