GE to invest $32M in Pennsylvania manufacturing facility

Fairfield-based General Electric Corp. recently announced plans to build a manufacturing facility it said will strengthen and expand its advanced manufacturing technologies across the company.

The new facility in Pennsylvania is a $32 million investment over three years, which will create 50 high-tech engineering jobs in disciplines ranging from mechanical and electrical to systems and software engineering, the company reported in a press release.

The new facility will integrate technology and manufacturing as GE develops a training program in additive manufacturing for its technologists. Advanced manufacturing includes new digital fabrication technology, lean manufacturing methods, rapid prototyping, advanced materials sciences and supply chain efficiency.

“Advanced manufacturing is driving a profound change in industry and at GE,” said Dan Heintzelman, GE vice chairman, in the press release. “We can more efficiently invent and build products for our customers, while driving better margins for our investors.”

The new facility will be outside of Pittsburgh, in Findland Township. Pennsylvania is home to more than 8,500 GE employees.

Construction is expected to begin in March and be completed by September.
