Garrett Bolella recognized for work on transit and development projects in Norwalk, Stamford

The Engineering News-Record New England honored Garrett Bolella as one of the regions top young professionals.

Garret Bolella, Norwalk’s Assistant Director of Transportation, Mobility, and Parking was named as one of the Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England top professionals of 2024.

Bolella, who was also named one of Westfair’s 40 Under 40 in 2022, was recognized for his contributions by ENR both for his work towards finally completing the 35-year, $27 million project to revitalize Norwalk’s Wall Street area, and his role as a traffic engineer in Stamford.

Bolella’s notable work in Stamford included an overhaul of the entire city road network, new designs for roads, establishing the city’s first buffered bike lane, and the installation of the city’s first roundabout.

Bolella is the only one of the 10 ENR New England honorees from Connecticut.

“Garrett Bolella is an asset to the City of Norwalk, and we are grateful to have him on our team,” said Mayor Rilling in a press release. “He has managed several innovative transportation projects and has helped pave the way towards making Norwalk a safer, more sustainable community for our residents. His dedication, professionalism and expertise are exemplary and well-deserving of this outstanding recognition.”

“It is surreal to receive this recognition for my contributions to the communities I’ve served. A big congratulations to my fellow nominees, as their work, leadership and impact is inspiring in transforming communities across New England,” said Bolella. “I am so fortunate to lead a team of dedicated professionals who make incredible contributions to the City of Norwalk every day. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to execute the Mayor’s vision to further transportation choice in Norwalk and play a pivotal role in building upon what is one of the most livable cities in the nation.”
