FEMA approves $7.3M in Sandy-related aid

Through Nov. 19, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had approved more than $7.6 million in federal assistance to Connecticut residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced.

FEMA has approved more than $7.3 million in aid for housing assistance, including short-term rental assistance and home repair costs, and $353,000 in aid for other needs such as medical and dental expenses and lost personal possessions.

More than 9,164 residents from Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London counties and the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribal nations have registered for federal disaster assistance.

Separately, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $489,500 in disaster loans for Connecticut residents and businesses in the storm’s wake.

Residents and businesses in the state’s four coastal counties seeking storm-related federal aid are required to register with FEMA. To register or for more information, those affected by the storm can call 1-800-621-FEMA or go to DisasterAssistance.gov.
