Cycling co. details expansion
Cycling Sports Group is building a 4,500-square-foot research and development facility across the street from its headquarters in Bethel.
CSG is a subsidiary of Dorel Industries Inc., which is based in Montreal and which manufactures and markets a wide range of consumer products, including bicycle brands Cannondale, GT, Mongoose and Schwinn.
The Business Journal reported Aug. 14 that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy disclosed the expansion without offering additional detail at the time.
“The opening of the R&D facility is a milestone on a journey to build the most desirable brands in the world,” said Marjory Elwell, a public relations coordinator for CSG. “It”™s an investment to create the right environment and a tool to unlock the creativity and sense of discovery across our engineering and design teams.”
The new lab will allow the company to “push the limits” of composite materials, suspension, paint and structural design for their brands, Elwell said.
The group is unsure how many additional employees will be hired to staff the new center. CSG has added 50 employees since 2009, bringing the company’s worldwide employment to 590. CSG employs 160 people at its Bethel headquarters.
