CVS Health to shed another 42 workers in new year
HARTFORD – CVS Health intends to lay off 42 additional employees in the new year as part of an earlier plan to downsize its workforce, the health insurer/pharmaceutical retailer announced in a letter Monday to the state Department of Labor and Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam.
“On Oct. 1, 2024, we wrote to inform you that CVS Health will be conducting a mass layoff at its facility located at 151 Farmington Ave., Hartford, Connecticut,” the letter starts off. “The company has now determined that additional layoffs will be occurring at this facility. This action is expected to be permanent. As a result of this decision, employee terminations will be conducted over the 14 -day period beginning on Jan. 25, 2025 through Feb. 7, 2025.”
The company, which also includes Aetna health insurance, said 12 of those employees affected work at the Hartford offices while the remaining 30 are remote, “outstationed,” or work at home employees. CVS has 19 stores in Fairfield County and 31 in Westchester County.
In its October announcement, CVS Health announced it would lay off 416 employees next month, of which only 93 work at the facility and the remaining employees are remote.
“All employees who will be terminated as a result of this action have been notified of their specific separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” the letter continued.
Among some of the job titles that are being terminated are complaint and appeals analyst, customer service representative, data engineer, executive director of software development engineering, staff cloud engineer, and vice president and senior legal counsel. Most of the jobs will be terminated on Jan. 25, 2025.
