CTDOT seeks comment on draft transportation plan

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) released a draft of its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for public comment on March 7.

The draft plan includes proposals for more than 180 projects to be pursued with $3.3 billion in federal funds and $724 million from the state plus $23 from local programs.

Of that $14.6 million is to be used for public transportation operations assistance, $2.2 billion for highway and bridge programs, and $1.1 billion for rail, bus, and rideshare capital and operating costs.

Fairfield County projects included in the draft plan include the US 7/CT 15 Interchange in Norwalk, the CT 136 Bridge rehabilitation project over the Saugatuck River in Westport, several railroad bridges serving Metro North trains, and upgrades to CTDOT facilities and fleet vehicles.

“Transportation supports our communities, quality of life, and the economy vitality of the state,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto in a press release. “Virtually all aspects of day-to-day activity and necessities are supported or impacted by Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure systems.”

“Everyone uses transportation–roads, bridges, buses, trains, sidewalks, multi-use paths and ferries. It is critical that we receive feedback from the public so we can tailor our projects, services and policies to best fit the needs of all stakeholders. Please, be part of the process. This is your opportunity to be heard.”

Public informational hearings will be held both in person at CTDOT Headquarters, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington and on zoom on May 15. Registration is available at https://departmentoftransportation.cmail19.com/t/j-l-sktitil-djuljtdyb-q/

The draft plan will be available for review and public comment between May 1 and May 31.
