Conn. home sales rise despite slow June

In the second quarter, single-family home sales in Connecticut rose 11 percent from the same period in 2011, though June sales were up just 0.4 percent from a year earlier, according to The Warren Group.

In all, more than 6,700 homes were sold in the second quarter. In the first half, Connecticut sales were up 9 percent from a year earlier to nearly 10,900 houses.

“It looks like the market lost some momentum in June,” said Warren Group CEO Timothy Warren Jr., in a prepared statement. “Connecticut home sales are not as strong as in other parts of New England. Hopefully the local consumer confidence combined with low mortgage rates will help the market a great deal.”

In the first half, the median home sale price was $233,000, down 5.5 percent from the same period in 2011.

Connecticut condominium sales dropped 6 percent in June, but sales were up 4 percent in the second quarter and 3 percent in the first half. The year-to-date median price of condos in the Connecticut is $160,000, down 8.5 percent from a year ago.
