Bridgeport Hospital adds outpatient imaging sites

State health officials recently approved Bridgeport Hospital’s acquisition of certain outpatient services and facilities of Robert D. Russo, MD and Associates Radiology in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stratford.

The acquisition includes X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, bone density and other general radiology services at 4699 Main St. in Bridgeport, 425 Post Road in Fairfield and 2909 Main St. in Stratford. Effective later this summer, Bridgeport Hospital will also absorb CT scan services at the Bridgeport location and an MRI service at 2595 Main St. in Stratford.

The services will be offered under the name Bridgeport Hospital Outpatient Radiology after the state Office of Health Care Access approved the transaction, which was agreed to December 2012.

Bridgeport Hospital also plans to build a comprehensive outpatient center at 5520 Park Ave. in Trumbull, the site of its new Radiology Oncology Center. Construction of the outpatient facility is expected to begin next year.

Prior to the acquisition, Bridgeport Hospital did not operate any outpatient imaging services. The hospital said many former Russo Radiology employees had stayed on, becoming employees of the hospital, and that other physicians chose to retire without releasing any specific numbers.

“Operating outpatient radiology services allows the hospital to maintain consistent standards of care in both inpatient and outpatient settings,” said hospital CEO William M. Jennings in a statement.
