Bluefish co-founder Foster may run for Bridgeport mayor

Mary-Jane Foster, the vice president of university relations at the University of Bridgeport and co-founder of the Bridgeport Bluefish, said on Thursday she is considering a run for Bridgeport mayor in the upcoming November election.

“I’m hoping to make a decision in the coming week,” Foster said.

Foster cited tax increases, a lack of job growth and an education system “in chaos” as some of the issues she would seek to address in her campaign should she choose to run for mayor. Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch is expected to run for re-election.

“There are a number of very difficult circumstances Bridgeport is facing,” Foster said. “I’ve been looking at the opportunity to make a difference in some of these issues.”

Foster ran unsuccessfully for Bridgeport mayor in 2011, when she lost to Finch in the Democratic primary. She served as CEO of the Bluefish until 2008, when she became UB’s vice president of university relations later that year.

“Im looking forward to the discussion around these issues over the next few months,” she said. “There is a lot to consider.”
