AmeriCares assisting in storm relief effort

AmeriCares is on the scene to help people devastated by Tropical Storm Sandy.

The Stamford-based disaster relief organization announced that it is delivering supplies and bottled water to those impacted by the storm across the tri-state area.

AmeriCares is sending 5,000 Johnson & Johnson hygiene kits with soap, shampoo and toothpaste to emergency shelters, and is also working with The Salvation Army and World Cares Center to distribute the kits.

Relief workers have visited shelters in Fairfield and Westchester, and expect additional aid in the coming days.

“This is just the beginning of what is sure to be a large-scale response with dozens of aid deliveries,” said Garrett Ingoglia, AmeriCares vice president of emergency response in a press release. “Sandy is the worst storm the East Coast has experienced in a generation. We are working to help thousands of families who have been displaced, lost power or have trouble accessing health care due to the storm.”
