2012 record year for New Haven Line

Despite Hurricane Sandy, Metro-North Railroad announced a record number of passengers rode the New Haven Line in 2012.

The New Haven Line had 38.8 million rides, up 1.3 percent in 2012 and breaking the previous record set in 2011, with Stamford being the busiest suburban work destination.

Overall, Metro-North ridership rose 0.8 percent to 83 million, its second-highest year ever, nearly matching the record 83.6 million rides in 2008.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, Metro-North estimates it lost 1.8 million rides, “the most severe weather impact on (Metro-North) ridership ever,” it reported in a press release.
