Trends and tips for holiday decorating
The interior design team at RubyHome Luxury Real Estate have delved into Pinterest to reveal five interior design trends that are heating up winter:
- Winter front porch décor — Interest in “winter front porch decor” has surged 975% on Pinterest across the United States since September. Experts at RubyHome recommended starting with a winter wreath on your front door – one that can stand up to the elements and the constant opening and closing of the door. You can choose one made of dried leaves, faux flowers or even a combination of seasonal elements like pinecones, berries and cinnamon.
Accompany this with some seasonal plants. Pine and eucalyptus with berries and thistle will give your porch a burst of color. Any planters or pots in warm, earthy tones will help complement the season. Place a festive doormat with a holiday greeting at the entrance. Dress up your porch furniture with festive throw pillows and blankets.
- Earthy tones for the bedroom – Searches for “earthy bedroom” have risen by 113% since July. RubyHome suggested using colors inspired by nature, such as browns, greens, warm grays and muted reds. Choose a duvet cover, sheets and pillowcases in natural colors like deep brown, olive green or sandy beige. A neutral linen duvet cover can also add an earthy texture.
Add throw pillows in various earthy tones and textures to your bed or sitting area. Consider fabrics like jute, burlap or those with nature-inspired patterns like leaves, branches or animal prints.
For those looking to revamp furniture this winter, experts recommend incorporating wooden furniture pieces, such as a solid wood bed frame, nightstands or a dresser. Natural wood tends to add warmth and a strong connection to nature. Succulents, ferns, snake plants or any greenery can add a refreshing touch of nature to your bedroom as well.
3. Winter crochet — Searches for “winter crochet” have surged by 1328% since May. Embrace the trend with crotcheted pillow covers, blankets, throws or even photograph frames with seasonal and nature-inspired motifs.
4. Winter coffee bar ideas – U.S. Pinterest searches for “coffee bar ideas kitchen counter” have surged by 117% since May in what is the most unusual trend on the list. Channel your inner barista or baristo by dedicating a countertop for your “coffee bar” and festooning it with earth-colored table décor, along with festive mugs. Serve seasonal flavors like pumpkin and peppermint, topped with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and cinnamon.
5. Green Christmas décor – Pinterest data shows interest in “green Christmas decor” across the U.S. soaring by 4900% since July. RubyHome said the easiest way to “go green” is with a painted green bathroom, kitchen cabinets or, for the timid of heart, an accent wall in a living room, bedroom or home office.
